Welcome to Galaxy Portuguese Water Dogs
 Galaxy Portuguese Water Dogs was established in 1988, with the purchase of Cory (Ch. Brinmar's First Encore Galaxy, CD,OA,NAJ,AWD,ROM,TT,CGC) followed shortly by Barney (Ch. Windruff’s Pirate O’ the Galaxy, CD, NA, ROM). My first litter was born in September of 1990. Since then, I have had, on average, about one litter per year. Numerous Champions (both American and Canadian) and numerous titles in the performance venues, such as: Obedience, Agility, Rally-O & Water. Also a “Top Ten” (Barney in 1992) and an “Award of Merit” (Bubba, National Specialty 1999).
My puppies are born and raised in my home with lots of socialization and they are played with every day. The Sire and Dam always have their health testing completed before being used for breeding.
I breed for temperament, structure and, of course, healthy puppies. Temperament is especially important as this has to be a dog that will be a pleasure to live with. When the puppies are seven weeks old, I have a professional trainer perform a “Puppy Aptitude Test” which was developed by Wendy Volhard and is widely used and approved by dog trainers across the country. This assures me and the prospective buyer of my pups the right “fit” for their family and lifestyle.
Puppies are placed in their new homes by matching the right personality to the right home. All Portuguese Water Dogs have a common denominator in personality but can have different levels of that personality. Some are extremely strong-willed and active, some middle-of-the-road and some are mellower. This mellower personality is not a sit-in-the-corner dog. It is still active but quieter than its littermates.
I usually select the puppy for each family. If there are a few that will fit, then the family can make the choice. All of my pet-quality pups are sold with a spay/neuter contract and on limited registration. This does not mean the pups are of inferior quality, only that they do not meet all of the qualifications of the standard for the show ring. These dogs are still pure Portuguese Water Dogs and are able to compete in agility, obedience and water while, at the same time, are wonderful family pets.
Portuguese Water Dogs are highly intelligent and, therefore, need a home where they will be given training, guidance and love. They are highly active as puppies and young adults. This is a dog that wants to be with you all of the time. If you are not prepared to have a dog follow you everywhere you go and demand your time and energy, then this may not be the breed for you.
